Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are electromagnetic waves that travel along a metal–dielectric or metal–air interface, practically in the infrared or visible-frequency. The term "surface plasmon polariton" explains that the wave involves both charge motion in the metal (" surface plasmon ") and electromagnetic waves in the air or dielectric (" polariton "). Surface Plasmon Resonance is a phenomenon that occurs when polarized light hits a metal film at the interface of media with different refractive indices. SPR techniques excite and detect collective oscillations of free electrons (known as surface plasmons) via the Kretschmann configuration, in which light is focused onto a metal film through a glass prism and the subsequent reflection is detected (Fig.
Those nanostructures own the capability of supporting collective electron excitations, known as surface plasmons.

2 Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is one of the commonly used technologies for detailed and quantitative studies of protein-protein interactions and determination of their equilibrium and kinetic parameters. SPR provides excellent instrumentation for a label-free, real-time investigation of protein-protein interactions. 2017-04-20 Surface plasmon resonance in gold nanoparticles: a review J Phys Condens Matter. 2017 May 24;29(20):203002.

This co … 1988-04-14 Surface Plasmon Resonance. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was used to show that phage displaying RPS25 specifically bond to kahalalide F. Based on these results, the authors postulated that RPS25 was involved in a hitherto unidentified signaling pathway that triggers a … The surface charge-density oscillations associated with surface plasmons at the interface between a metal and a dielectric can give rise to strongly enhanced optical near-fields, which are spatially confined near the metal surface. Surface plasmon resonance is an excellent method for monitoring changes in the refractive index in the near vicinity of the metal surface. When the refractive index changes, the angle at which the intensity minimum is observed will shift as indicated in Figure 1.2 , where line A depicts the original plot of reflected light intensity versus incident angle, and B is the plot after the change in Also known as surface plasmon resonance microscopy, SPRi follows the same general principles of SPR. However, the information that is measured and the method of detection is different. This technique was inspired by the need for a higher-throughput method of studying binding interactions that exploits the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance. 2 Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is one of the commonly used technologies for detailed and quantitative studies of protein-protein interactions and determination of their equilibrium and kinetic parameters. High conversion efficiency relies not only on broadening the absorption spectrum but on coupling the harvested energy into chemical reactions. Such coupling undergoes hot-electron transfer and photothermal conversion during the decay of surface Surface plasmons (SPs) are coherent delocalized electron oscillations that exist at the interface between any two materials where the real part of the dielectric function changes sign across the interface (e.g. a metal-dielectric interface, such as a metal sheet in air).

The surface plasmon response of metal nanoparticles is studied for different shapes and physical environments. For polyhedral nanoparticles, the surface plasmon resonances are studied as a function of the number of faces and vertices. The modification of these surface plasmons by different surrounding media and the presence of a substrate or other nanoparticles is also discussed.
